And while we're at it...let's be honest, we're in a recession. And whether or not the effects are felt at home I feel a sense of obligation to make my dollars work harder. Forcing them to stretch further than ever just to prove a point (albeit only to myself) that they can. So how can someone fork out minimal cash for maximum fashion? Enter the fine art of sewing.
Once reserved for grannies and mythical great aunts who lived through the depression era sewing is now seeing a resurgence of popularity. So after stalking my favorite sites and sifting endlessly for a garment uniquely beautiful I head over to Burdastyle.com. It is by far one of the best sewing communities I have come across. Not only are the pattern offerings a little more fashion forward than what you may find at your local sewing store, but the photo galleries rock! I can't tell you how many times I have stumbled across a look-a-like garment similar to the one I was coveting minutes earlier on a pricey boutique website. And the best part is that the sewers quote what pattern they used and will even clue you in to where they purchased the fabric and notions to make their own truely unique piece. The result is that I can make something that would cost hundreds of dollars at the store and my piece really is one of a kind.
Here are just a few of the projects featured on Burdastyle.com I am currently drooling over...
