Dress Envy

So I have to admit, I’m not a huge Twilight fan. I haven’t read the books and I can’t wait until the entire money grubbing movie series is over. I know, I know…I should fear for my safety right now. Just typing those words could enlist hoards of fans to come running to the defense of their beloved series. Don’t get me wrong, as a closet lover of Harlequin romance novels I understand how great it can be to lose oneself in a love story. I just can’t stand any more of the squeals and screeches that ring out at the mere mention of “Edward” or “Jacob”. But hey, major kudos to the actors and actresses that have found fame and fortune due to the overwhelming success of the franchise. They just might need those fortunes to replace their hearing someday.

On a brighter note I love, love, loved the dress Kristen Stewart wore at the 2010 MTV movie awards. And for me that is something to squeal about! Form fitting, and just the right amount of sexy and sassy. My first thought was “wow, perfect choice for her and for this event”, my second thought was “I could make that!” (or something similar).

The dress she wore was by Dolce and Gabbana. I’ve searched for a sewing pattern that is similar to the dress but sadly have come up empty handed. The closest I was able to find is the Vogue 8280. If you are a skilled sewer all you have to do is alter the patter to remove the sleeves and hem the dress as short as you dare to go. And by re-creating this look yourself you can also determine just how skin tight you want it to fit.

Usually I like to think about how an adult style could be interpreted for a children’s ensemble, but I draw the line at a skin tight mini dress.

So if you have the time and love the Dolce and Gabbana as much as I do, let the sewing begin.

Jumpsuit for me. Romper for mini me.

Jumpsuits are one of the hottest trends this summer, and we're not just talking about the standard kiddie terry cloth kind. Jumpsuits, rompers or playsuits….heck call them what you will but any way you look at it they are sizzlin’ this summer. Available in a myriad of styles, fabrics and colors the options are limitless. Casual, fancy, worn alone or draped with accessories they are the perfect balance between fun and function. Here are a few of my favs:

And don't forget about these equally fun rompers for your little one:

If you really want to get creative and original, try some of these readily available sewing patterns and make your own! (and one for your child too!)

I love this linen fabric that I found at my local Joann’s and think it would make a great casual romper:

I love this trend so much I’ve seriously contemplated donning one myself, however at seven months pregnant I’m having doubts. Perhaps that’s why a simple google search turned up just about zero results for ‘maternity romper’. Ah well, hopefully jumpsuits won’t be passé by the time fall rolls around. And come to think of it, a plaid jumpsuit paired with a slouchy sweater, tights and boots would look quite smashing.
